Who cares about toilets? AquaFed does!

Who cares about toilets? Well AquaFed certainly does, and we are very much looking forward to World Toilet Day on 19 November.

World Toilet Day celebrates toilets and raises awareness of the 3.6 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation. It is about taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces because they don’t have a ‘safe toilet’ – basically a safely managed sanitation service.

Every day, over 700 children under five years old die from diarrhoea linked to unsafe water, sanitation and poor hygiene.

Yet safe sanitation is a human right and public health depends on toilets and adequate handwashing facilities. Toilets also drive improvements in gender equality, education, economics and the environment.

AquaFed’s members play their part by operating public wastewater systems around the world – ensuring safe sanitation and the very highest standards of wastewater treatment. So we definitely care about toilets – and we hope you do too!
