AquaFed is a UN EcoSoc accredited partner of UN Water and throughout our history we have been a regularly active member.

Our role is to put forward the expertise of our members, on the future direction of water and wastewater development around the world and on climate change. Being in UN Water helps to keep our members aware of latest developments so they can understand challenges and future opportunities.

We regularly contribute to UN Water in many ways. For example, we are almost always a part of the drafting team for the annual World Water Development Reports – providing text and case studies of our members’ work.

Leading the UN communication campaign for the 2021 report on Valuing Water was a real highlight for us. We ensured UN Water undertook an active, participatory communication process with people around the world during the campaign – this was the first time UN Water had engaged with people in this way.

AquaFed worked with Women for Water, the Special Rapporteur on the Human Right to Water and Sanitation and Indigenous Peoples Groups to organize a Special Event on human rights, at the historic UN 2023 Water Conference.

CURRENT WORK

We are part of a group of organizations within the UN Water group which has already begun work to produce this report, which will be published in March 2026.  UN World Water Development Reports are produced annually on different subjects and are used as key references by national governments.

Our aim will be to ensure the document is positive about women, the roles they have in all aspects  of water and sanitation services and their successes. We will be coordinating examples from our members and private sector organizations which have shown innovation and creativity in the way they provide services to women and other genders.
